Great Race 49: Mustang Entertainment Presents: Lloyd in Concert

Silver City, NM- Towards the end of the week for Great Race 49 this year, WNMU students were given the unique opportunity to see a notable name in concert at Silver City that gave flashbacks of middle school years and the music that was played at school dances. The name was none other than Lloyd. Lloyd is well known for songs like, “Get It Shawty,” and featured on Young Money’s popular hit from 2010, “Bedrock.” He’s also known for his high-pitched and soulful voice in the genre of R&B.

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Lloyd traveled all the way down to Silver City, NM to perform for this special event. Isaac Brundage, Vice President of Student Affairs and Sage Mays of Mustang Entertainment were the emcees for the show.

The opening act for the concert was Vonzell Solomon, who was second runner-up on American Idol season 4. She was a bright, enthusiastic, and bubbly performer that stunned in a radiant red bodysuit, coupled with a fringed skirt that ran all the way down to the floor. She had long and gorgeous lilac hair.

Solomon had plenty of interaction with the crowd, taking dancers up on stage with her, and walking down into the audience, building up excitement for the entertainment that was going to take place after her strong performance. Vonzell showed off her strong pipes during her set list to songs like, Rihanna’s “Needed Me,” Zayn’sPillowtalk,” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling.”

There was a simple set up for the band, which included a keyboard, electric guitarist, and drummer. For his set list, Lloyd sang around six to eight songs, including “Bedrock,” a stretched out, vocal-powering cover of “Sexual Healing,” and “I Want You.” He was dressed in a full body olive colored tracksuit with a zipper adorned bomber jacket and a vibrant, red hat worn backwards. At one point, he unzipped his jacket to reveal only his abs and tattoos, much to the chagrin of the female audience members. Lloyd was splendid on both the keyboard and acoustic guitar, which was brought out towards the end of his set.

Overall, it was a good performance from both performers and made a memorable impression on all students who used to listen to Lloyd back in their middle school days, including myself. Hats off to Mustang Entertainment for making this happen at Great Race 49.
