Five Students Honored in Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Silver City, NM- Five outstanding students were inducted into the Student Hall of Fame today for Western New Mexico University. They were recognized for their amazing achievements and contributions to the community and campus of WNMU, and given a cord along with a glass trophy signifying their acceptance into the hallowed hall. The students for the 2017 year are Tim Stillman, David Cota, Ryan Ruiz, Casey Dickens, and Claudia Osuna Ochoa. While each student comes from a different background, they have all excelled in several areas as a student at WNMU, in the community, and overall being a leader.

The ceremony, held on the third floor of the Student Memorial Building, had each student spoken of by the person that nominated them for this honor beginning with Miguel Vicens, the Associate Dean of the School of Business for Tim Stillman, ASWNMU President-elect and President of Delta Mu Delta. Next was Dr. Allison Evans speaking about David Cota, who is a graduate student, recruiter for the department of Admissions, and a Student Service Specialist. Then Margaret Soucy went up to speak about Ryan Ruiz, who is a Career Services assistant, SI tutor, and Center for Student Success work study. Casey Dickens was recognized by Computer Science professor Doug Medin, for whom she is an SI tutor and also works at the Writing Center, along with being the President of English honor society Sigma Tau Delta. Finally, Amanda Moffet, Alumni Affairs director, introduced Claudia Osuna Ochoa, who was unfortunately not present in person. Ochoa was gone for a trip with the Language Institute for testing in Sinaloa, and accepted her award with a pre-recorded video.

Four of the five inductees are all seniors, and while most will be continuing their education in graduate school, there is no doubt that they will all be successful in their future endeavors.
