Adult Education Services Experience Growth

Silver City NM- 2017 brought a wide range of successes to Western New Mexico University. In particular, the end of the year brought many new changes to the Adult Education Services (AES), as well as an opportunity for extreme growth. AES is a university department that is committed to creating and maintaining academic programs for the surrounding community members who may be facing temporary unemployment.

AES programs include preparing for the High School Equivalence Diploma (GED), as well as training in computer skills, reading, writing and math.

On January 26, three individuals will be heading to the Roundhouse in Santa Fe, to receive the NMAEA Outstanding Student of the Year Award. Debbie Maldonado, Director of AES is proud to say that Secretary Damron will recognize the Individuals at the state level. Out of these three individuals, two have decided to continue with Western New Mexico University in pursuit of a higher education.

Also bringing big changes to the AES program is a new partnership with the Rainbow Housing organization. This national organization offers life assistance to those that live in two different housing areas of Silver City and some educational opportunities to low income families in Grant County. Other services offered include academic planning/career advice, resume writing and keyboard skills.

These programs are available for all members of the community and are looking to become even bigger and better in the future. For more information please contact Adult Educational Services at 75-574-5101 or aes@wnmu.edu
