Mustangs Celebrate Fall Commencement Ceremony

Silver City, NM- On Friday December 8th, the Fine Arts Center Theater hosted 150 graduating Mustangs as well as their respective loving family and friends. Among the crowd of graduates, there were WNMU staff, first to graduate in their families, and many other diverse students crossing the threshold.

The ceremony welcomed speaker and inspirational racing legend Bobby Unser, winner of eight 500-mile Indy car victories, and selected Sports Illustrated in “Top Five Athletes,” delivered an inspiring speech to the graduates. President of ASWNMU, Tim Stillman followed up with a motivating speech that reached the hearts of many in attendance. With the theater filled with cheering, clapping, and camera flashes, the graduates finally walked, earning their degrees after years of hard work and dedication.

One happy graduate, Alyssa Wenning , earned her degree in Psychology and Rehabilitation Services and celebrated her success with her family from Gallup, NM.

“I like helping people, specially those with disabilities,” says Wenning, who has spent six and a half years working for her Baccalaureate degree. She was attracted to WNMU for the quality of the program and Silver City as a town. “I love all the beauty of it and all the outside activities, hiking, and mountain biking,” Wenning said.

Wenning plans to further enhance her education by attending graduate school at an out of state University.

Be sure to keep an eye out for further stories on graduates coming out shortly.
