Student-Athletes showcase talent at Mustang Madness

On Monday, October 14, students gathered in Drag’s Court to celebrate the upcoming Mustang Basketball season with Mustang Madness. Students cheered for the members of the WNMU 2019-2020 mens and womens basketball teams as they were introduced in the dark with neon lights and fog adding to the excitement. The basketball teams tested their skills on the court. Some activities incorporated in the event were a three-point shootout, dunk contest, and a half-court shot contest.

Both men and women’s basketball teams participated in the three-point shootout. The dunk contest was presented by the men’s basketball team. Three team members participated including Jeremiah Hudson, Eddie Giron, and Amarion Cash. Giron, from Monterey, Mexico, made a dunk in less than a minute. Amarion Cash, from Phoenix, Arizona, made the dunk in 5.5 seconds. The crowd went wild!

There were four students who took a shot at the half-court shot activity. They were all very close but didn’t succeed. All three coaches participated in this activity as well. They had only one shot to make the half-court. Coach Joshua Pace was the only one to complete the task.

The first game of the Mustang Basketball season will take place on November 1, 2019 against Northern New Mexico College.
