WNMU and Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua Agree to Build Future Together

Silver City NM- Big steps were taken yesterday as the Western New Mexico University Department of Natural Sciences officially started a collaboration with key members from the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua. A memorandum of understanding was signed and keeping true to the agreement, both universities have come together to create new programs on an international level. Among the programs discussed was a dual-degree in either business or the sciences. This would allow students from both Mexico and the United States to be educated internationally, earn an international degree and have the opportunity to become bilingual in the process.

While the collaboration is still very much in it’s infancy and nothing is set in stone, members of both Universities are very excited for what is to come. Having a dual-degree program would allow students the opportunity to travel, learn, and grow, which goes hand in hand with the motto of WNMU: “Let’s build your future together.” The meeting lasted all day, included a working lunch, and massive gains were made on where the two universities would go next and how they would get there.

Although this endeavor is just beginning, the preliminary degree plan should be ready early in the new year. It is important for both WNMU and UACH to create successful international programs that will last a lifetime and ensure optimal success for the students at both colleges. Although this was the preliminary meeting, more will be set up throughout the coming year in anticipation of things to come.
