WNMU Pep Band Shows Support at local High School Games

Silver City, NM – February 19, Western New Mexico Universities Pep Band played at the Silver High Colts girls’ basketball game against the Cobre Indians. This is the second high school game the WNMU Pep Band has played at and according to music Professor Bryant Caffin, “The reason we participate in the high school games is because it keeps the energy of the game going and also brings excitement, not only to the team but also the Pep Band. It is a way for the Silver City community and potential future Western students to see what WNMU has to offer. There are actually dual credit students in the Pep Band that go to Silver High, so it’s a fun way to have them participate with their own school as well as get a glimpse at college.”

During the game the Pep Band played multiple well known songs such as Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes.

WNMU Pep Band flute player Felicia Flores was among the musicians playing in the Pep Band she said that ” The reason that I am in the WNMU Pep Band is that I love being able to express myself and it is also a very fun activity. This is my first year in the Pep Band and the music we play was really easy to learn, I learned it in about a week. I think it’s important to play at some of the high school games because it gives high school students something they can look forward to in college.

The WNMU Pep Band plays at multiple events around Silver City and practices at Parotti Hall at Western New Mexico University. For more information about possibly joining the Pep Band visit Bryant Chaffino or Danny Reyes at their office in Parotti Hall.
