Silver City, NM – Tuesday March 24th, Western New Mexico University held it’s third annual Hoops for Hope event and it was the first year hosted by SAAC: Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Hoops for Hopes is an event where people with disabilities and people of all backgrounds are able to come together and play different fun games together. This year there were basketball, soccer, volleyball, and even board games going on at the event. Students, faculty members, kids,and even adults were among the people that participated in the games.
Western New Mexico University Student Omar Lopez a tennis player at WNMU and among the students that helped organize the event said “It is important for students to learn how to get to know each other and also create a bond with and learn about people with disabilities. It gives people a chance to to come out o there comfort zones and have fun.”
Head softball coach Angela Corliss said “I think the community involvement is important for the athletes and students or people with special needs. They’re having lots of fun.” Hoops for Hope was hosted by Western New Mexico University and SAAC.
