Silver City, NM- This is a press release prepared by Sky Klaus for ASWNMU Student Senate.
Sky Klaus is a photographer, Journalist and Junior at Western New Mexico University majoring in Fine Arts. She is running for the ASWNMU Student Government Senator position for the Fall Semester of 2016. Sky Klaus usually is seen holding a camera and notebook in hand at nearly all of the student activities and events on campus and around Silver City. She has also interned at the National Geographic Headquarters in Washington DC and won a First Place New Mexico Press Award for live coverage of the Supreme Court Ruling of Same Sex Marriage, which is a rare honor for someone her age.
She was also the only intern at National Geographic last summer from New Mexico and represented Western greatly. Sky had the opportunity to work greatly with major production companies and the chance to interview celebrities such as the famous reggae group “The Wailers”. Klaus would be glad to give career advice to fellow students on how and where to apply for internships in the media industry. She wants all students to be able to have opportunities on campus that will help them form success in the career world after they graduate. Sky also has a great support for the Arts and thinks it’s something that’s important to work with on campus because it’s greatly over looked at times.
If Sky gets a senator position she plans to communicate greatly with students on what they want seen at Western New Mexico University and aspects that future students might benefit from that student government can help make happen. After graduation at Western New Mexico University she plans to broaden her education by getting a Masters of Arts in Teaching and still continue her love of art and writing by either teaching or working at a major publication.
Voting for Student Government will be held on Wednesday, April 13 on Mustang Express. Be sure to attend the live forum for campaigning students this coming Monday.
