International Collaboration Continues to Thrive

Silver City NM- On the week of September 13 to September 16, a group of professors from the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua and the Universidad de Ciudad Juarez met at Silver City for two days of considerable importance. These professors are from all walks of higher education including Psychology, Humanities, and Philosophy. The groups were here for a couple reasons, a workshop as well as intent for future collaborations.

The workshop entitled Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), is meant to help in estimating complex cause-effect relationship models with latent variables.  This method has gained some serious momentum in the areas of marketing, strategic management, and industrial engineering to name a few. Dr. Igor Barahona, a professor for the Institute of Mathematics from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, led the workshop.

While here, the professors also took advantage of communication. This workshop allowed them to create collaborations between their Universities while simultaneously creating them with ours. A brief meeting was set up in order for faculty from WNMU to meet the professors from Mexico in order to talk about future ideas, future workshops, and even some student/teacher exchanges.

The workshop was taught in Spanish, but the content was available in English as well. It was a very educational week for WNMU and those who came to visit. WNMU will be looking forward to more collaborations and exchanges in the future, creating a learning environment of international proportion.
