Mustangs gathered in Ben Altamirano Field on Saturday, October 5, to support their WNMU football team during the Homecoming Game, which was also the first night game for the university. Before the game started at 6:00 p.m., everyone had time to have a good time at the homecoming tailgate right outside Ben Altamirano Field. Students listened to music, ate food, and played games. Some were fortunate enough to catch Rawhide and take pictures with him. The first 25 who entered the field gates were awarded with cowbells, earplugs, and a limited- edition camo cap with WNMU colors.
Minutes before the game started, the WNMU Cheerleaders surprised the fans with shirts. The cheerleaders launched shirts to all fans throughout the whole game. For this game, the cheerleaders were joined by a small group of spirited girls helping them cheer the competing Mustangs.
The game began with early excitement for the fans as a touchdown was made within the first two minutes. The first quarter ended with a score of 20 to 7 in favor of WNMU. The first half of the game ended with a score of 23 to 17.
The halftime gave place to the presentation of the Homecoming Royalty. This year’s Homecoming Court included Niko Barr, James Lee, Joe Tito, Justyce Martinez, Sarai Migao, and Cassandra Vickery. Martinez was crowned the queen and Lee was crowned the King.
The game continued to be in favor of the Mustangs with a third quarter ending with a score of 33 to 28. At the end, the Mustangs claimed the victory with a final score of 47 to 28. Mustangs won the homecoming game of 2019 and the fans cheered them from beginning to end.
