PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Western New Mexico University women’s golf team used a solid second round score of 329 to move one spot to land in 10th after the final round concluded at the Augustana Spring Fling on Friday at the par 72, 5,901 yard Classic Club.
The Lady Mustangs ended up with a 696 (367-329) to finish in 10th, six-strokes back of Simon Fraser in ninth. Oklahoma Christian cruised to the team title beating the 13-team field by 23-shots. Oklahoma Christian’s Audrey Meisch won the individual title with a 149 to win by three-strokes.
Mary Driscol (Glendale, AZ/Kellis HS) carded one of the top rounds of the second day as she fired a 74 to end up with a 163 after an opening round 89 to land in a tie for 18th. Bobbi Pierson (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia HS) trimmed 14-shots off her opening round score of 94 to finish with an 80 for a 174 total to tie for 40th. Cheyenne Molina (Deming, NM/Deming HS) shot the same scores of 88 in both rounds to tally a 176 to tie for 44th. Adrianna Grijalva (Tucson, AZ/Ironwood HS) posted scores of 96 and 87 to end up with a 183 to tie for 57th. Rounding out the scores for the Lady Mustangs, Jessica Henderson (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) landed in 64th with a 196 (100-96).
The Lady Mustangs will return to action on April 3-4 at the Mustang Intercollegiate hosted by WNMU at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.
