Deming, NM- Jo Lynn Guerrero was born and raised in Deming, NM. After graduating from Deming High School in 2004, Jo Lynn worked as a 911 dispatcher for 9 years. “To me it doesn’t matter how late you start college.” Jo Lynn said, “I wanted to attend WNMU to further my education and receive my bachelors in Criminal Justice.” She says that she hopes to put her degree towards a career as a Federal Agent.
Jo Lynn says that she really loves attending WNMU Deming. “For it being an extended site, everyone is very friendly.” Jo Lynn said, “Everyone gets to know each other and without hesitation we help each other.”
Jo Lynn has never run for Student Government before, saying that this is the first time in her entire life that she’d attempted something like this. “I love trying new things. Working as a dispatcher, you learn how to multitask and work under a lot of pressure. I’ve learned a lot on how to deal with problems and be a quick problem-solver.” Jo Lynn said. “Working with the public I know that I have the skills to interact with students and listen to what they want and I will work hard to achieve those goals.”
Jo Lynn states that a good reason for students to vote for her is because she wants to make a difference for WNMU. Not just at the Silver City campus but at Western New Mexico University as a whole. “Students at these extended sites don’t feel included and I am wanting to be their voice and let them know that even though they do not attend main campus, they are still a part of WNMU.” Jo Lynn continued, “Students from these extended sites are unable to attend due to having families or some of them have transportation issues. I want to be able to bring the fun atmosphere to the extended sites.”
Jo Lynn also wants to get to know more about students, and listen to what they have to say about any problems they have and also work hard to get those issues resolved, saying that she wants to make their journey through WNMU one to remember. “I have good leadership skills and a very positive attitude,” Jo Lynn concluded. “I will work hard to achieve goals. I truly believe that whatever problems we come across as a senate, we can overcome them.”
