Silver City, NM- WNMU Athletics has a new Compliance Coordinator. Memphis, Tennessee native Benay Weintraub has joined the Western New Mexico University Athletics program, hoping to keep student athletes on the right track.
The position of compliance coordinator is designed to ensure that students are in the best of health, both physically and mentally. They also work to make sure that each student athlete from all eleven sports are doing well academically and maintain their eligibility to play on the field or on the courts. This means both meeting both the NCAA standards for student athletes and making sure each students is making the proper academic progress to graduate from Western.
Weintraub is a graduate of Whittier College in California, the same university that President Richard Nixon also attended. There she received a degree in Kinesiology and Nutritional Science. Weintraub heard of an opening at Western New Mexico University and investigated, quickly finding herself attracted to the atmosphere of the University.
Weintraub is also the academic advisor for SAAC, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, and hopes to use that position to not only be a helpful and trustworthy support system for students, but she also hopes to increase both school spirit and attendance at sporting events.
