ASWNMU Presents New Technology Plan to the Governor’s Office

Santa Fe, NM- On Wednesday, February 1st, Claudia Osuna and Dylan Kester, the President and Vice President of the Associated Students of Western New Mexico University, met with the New Mexico Governor’s Chief of Staff Keith Gardener to present a plan for new technology at WNMU. The student government are lobbying to secure funding for Virtual Applications, or as Kester described it, “Netflix for computer programs.”

Students, regardless of where they are taking their classes, would receive a subscription to a select number of programs that will enhance the classes they are taking. These programs include Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop, and more. Students would not necessarily own the programs, but would have access to them, depending on which classes they are taking.

This technology would be made available to all students of Western New Mexico University, whether they are taking classes on campus in Silver City, or studying in another city, state or country. At the meeting with Gardner, the Chief of Staff stated that he was very impressed with the idea.

Also present at the meeting was the WNMU Early Childhood Development Center, who were lobbying for money to sustain educators, students, and materials in their program and ensure that they have the tools they need for success.
