Silver City, NM- On September 23, WNMU honored two outstanding alumni, one of which was a man named Larry Barstow. Barstow graduated from WNMU with the class of 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Social Sciences. Barstow also played Left Tackle with the WNMU Mustangs and was a member of the Neumon Club. After graduating, Barstow worked in Aerospace and other manufacturing ventures. Currently he is the City Planner for Buena Park, CA, the home of Knotts Berry Farm.
Barstow was honored during Homecoming Weekend with the prestigious Outstanding Alumni Award. “He’s an amazing guy,” said Amanda Moffett Lane, the Director of Alumni Affairs. “He always comes to Homecoming every year and wherever he goes, he praises Western and does whatever he can to help recruit others to attend our University.”
Barstow described himself as a constant spectator and joked that some people would refer to him as a cheerleader. He claimed he always loved coming back to WNMU each year and always loved hearing others welcome him “home.”
New Mexico State Police Officer Thaxter “Scrappy” Richard was a fellow recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award.
