Silver City, NM- The Western New Mexico University Exchange Program graduated 110 students on Friday, December 8. The ceremony was presided over by Language Institute Director Manuel Rodriguez and Applied Technology Director James Ortiz. Also in attendance were University President Dr. Joseph Shepard, Vice President of External Affairs, Magdaleno Manzanarez and New Mexico State Senator Howie Morales.
The students came to WNMU from assorted universities and high schools from the Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa. The intensive courses included welding and intermediate ESL. This was also the first time that the University has welcomed former high school students as part of the exchange program.
One of the teachers, Grecia Rivas, spoke positively of the experience. This is the second time that Rivas taught students from another country and she stated that she put into practice a lot of what she’d learned the first time around in order to give the exchange students a positive experience.
Western New Mexico University will be graduating their own class of students later on December 8 at 2 o’clock at the Fine Arts Building.
