Silver City, NM- On Tuesday, February 27, students are invited to a free showing of Marvel Studios’ latest film, Black Panther, sponsored by the WNMU office of Student Life. The super hero film follows the story of T’Challa, the king of the fictional African country Wakanda. As king, T’Challa protects his country as the super hero Black Panther.
Black Panther is notable for being the first black superhero in mainstream American comics, making his first appearance in 1966 in Fantastic Four #52. The film adaptation from Ryan Coogler is also notable for featuring a predominately black cast, featuring Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Chadwick Boseman in the title role.
The film opened on February 16 to critical acclaim and has already grossed $709 million at the box office.
WNMU Student Life is sponsoring the free screening for students this Tuesday at 7:30pm at the Silco Theather located in Historic Downtown Silver City. Students are advised to bring their Mustang Cards in order to gain admittance.
