Deming, NM- The ASWNMU Student Senate organized and hosted a bowling night for students at the Deming campus on Friday, February 27, where students gathered at Starmax in Deming, NM and enjoyed a night of pizza and bowling.
One of the senators in attendance, Sarita Reyes, stated that the goal of the event was to get students from the Silver City and the Deming branches to join together. “It always seemed like there was a gap between our campuses and we wanted to feel like one whole school.” Reyes said.
WNMU student Ivon Legarda shared Reyes belief, claiming that during her time attending WNMU the school had never hosted an event for the Deming Branch and was glad that the Deming Branch was finally involved in school events. “It’s been a good night.” Legarda said. “I’m having a lot of fun.” She also expressed hope that there would be more events for the Deming campus.
Fellow Deming student Karen Martinez agreed, “We should do this every Friday!” She said playfully. Reyes added that the student senate hopes to get more events for the Deming branch planned, as well as getting the campus involved in upcoming Great Race events. Student senator Jose Hernandez was very pleased with the turnout for the event.
“I think tonight was great,” Hernandez said, “a lot of people came out and there was a lot of support. It’s always good to connect with the branches.” Hernandez, Reyes and the other senators who attended the event all appreciated everyone who turned out and said they hope that students at the Deming campus would join them at further events.
