Board Games ‘n Chill: Miller Library holds Game Night for Studying Students

Silver City, NM- With numerous exams, projects, symposiums and essays rapidly approaching, students at WNMU are under some serious pressure. The WNMU J. Cloyd Miller Library hopes to take some of the load off with a series of events dedicated to giving students a break in between studies during dead week.

On Monday, November 27, the Miller Library hosted a gaming night, welcoming everyone from serious console gamers to fans of traditional board games. Four flat-screen TVs were set out around the Miller Library, open to any student who wanted to plug in their gaming console and let off some steam with a round of Super Smash Bros, bust a move with Just Dance, or simply get frustrated with the pay to win features on Star Wars Battlefront II. Traditional board games such as Uno, Connect 4 and Jenga were also available to students.

Librarian Program Manager Cindy Provencio stated that the goal of such events is to encourage students to use the library for their studies and homework, but the main priority of the game night was to have fun.

“We want to give students to opportunity to take a mental break and unwind in between studying for their finals,” said Provencio.

The Miller Library is continuing to have events throughout the “Dead Week.” Tomorrow they will be posting a “Bad Art Night,” in which students can come by the library and show off their artistic talents, or lack thereof.

The week will conclude with an “All-Nighter” at the end of the week, in which the library will be open throughout Sunday evening and into the early hours of Monday morning.  Pizza will be provided, thanks to Sodexo Food Services and the Associated Students of Western New Mexico University. Library staff will also be on hand to assist students as needed.
