Silver City, N.M. – Despite double digit scoring from senior Jordan Gutierrez and sophomore Megan Looney, the Lady Mustangs basketball team fell short last Thursday night against Texas Woman’s University, 75-46, in a Lone Star Conference contest.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter as they went up 10-0. It wasn’t until 7:02 when WNMU earned their first points of the game thanks to a Botelho layup. The quarter belonged to TWU as they headed into the second quarter with a comfortable 23-10 lead.
Texas began the second by hitting a three to increase their lead to fifteen, 25-10. Mustangs kept battling throughout the quarter as they cut the lead to eleven twice; Looney converted a layup at 7:56 and Gutierrez drilled two free throws a few possessions later. TWU would not allow breathing room for Western as they held the lead at half, 47-20.
The second half belonged to the Pioneers by keeping a steady lead throughout the game and would eventually go on to claim the victory, 75-46.
