Linzy Granger Runs For ASWNMU Senate

Silver City, NM- Linzy Granger headed into her junior year feeling pretty confident thanks to being awarded the All RMAC, Pre-Season Second Baseman award as well a position in SAAC. She also serves as Historian for Student Occupational Therapy Assistant Club and plays second base on WNMU softball team.

Originally hailing from Carsbad, NM, and graduating with the class of 2013 at Carlsbad High School, Linzy and her twin sister, Lacy Granger, came to WNMU on a softball scholarship. She had originally enrolled into college as a nursing student, but eventually fell in love with the occupational therapy program and decided to make a career out of it. Now in her junior year and studying in the OT Assistant program or COTA, Linzy hopes to get a Bachelor’s in Rehabilitation Services.

She had considered running for student government before, but she finally feels that now is the right time. Linzy listed many qualities that would make her ideal for a senate position, stating that she’s very approachable. She feels that people are comfortable coming to her and telling her their issues and that she can relay that to student government in a professional manner. She also states that she is excellent at organizing events and parties. She claims that she would even excel at getting even the most reserved of students to participate in school events.

On the subject of school events, Linzy says that she hopes to get more after-school events organized. This would include more events like the lip-synch battle, the talent show, and school dances.

“I feel that after-school, everyone tends to just go home,” Linzy said. “I want people socialize and be involved in school. I want them to feel like they are important and that their voices matter.”

Also if elected Senator, she would like to use her clout to focus some attention on the occupational therapy program and help them become more connected with the school. This dovetails into another idea that Linzy has in mind, which is ensuring that Student Government would also work with exisiting clubs and organizations to make their events even better.

“Having already been a part of some clubs on campus such as SOTA and SAAC, I feel like I have good connections with many people,” Linzy said. “If I were to be part of the student government, we could work in collaboration with clubs and make the events and activities that already happen even bigger and better than they already are.”

Linzy describes herself as being very determined and as someone who can get something done, claiming that once she gives her word on something, she will do it. Also says she’s good at seeing other points of views in disagreements. Says she hopes to lead by example, that people will notice her actions and also try to succeed.

Voting for Student Government positions will be held on Wednesday, April 13 through Mustang Express. Also, don’t forget to attend the public forum this coming to hear each candidate speak before the student body.
