New Writer Alert! Meet: Essmeralda Corn

Hey, Mustangs!

My name is Essmeralda Corn. I have recently become one of the new writers for the WNMU online newspaper, The Mustang. My overall objective for The Mustang is to provide different reports on both informative and educational entertainment. I want to make sure that my articles are as interesting for not only students, but the WNMU community.

I am a junior-year transfer student coming from Cochise College in Douglas, AZ. For those who are unaware, Douglas is a rural border town located next to the border dividing Arizona and Mexico. While I went to Cochise, I worked as both an English and Biology tutor. I love helping people out, so never hesitate to ask me anything. I am also fluent in both English and Spanish, so I’ll be glad to help anyone in need.

I recently moved to Silver City, NM in the Spring of 2020. I transferred from Cochise with an Associate’s in Exercise Science, and I am currently majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology. I currently work for the Center of Student Success Department (CSS) which is a great space for allowing students to study and lounge. In fact, the CSS is actually one of my favorite spots to go to.

Some additional information that you may find intriguing:

  • I like every and any genre of music, except country. (Sorry guys!)
  • I love making art; ceramic pieces, paintings, drawings/sketches.
  • One of my many hobbies includes exercising; weightlifting, long walks, hiking, etc.
  • I adore all animals! (yes, even cats)
  • I was born in Honolulu, HI and moved to Arizona in 2006.
  • I am vegetarian and no, I do not miss eating bacon.
  • I love horror movies, shows, etc.
  • I have visited Germany, Amsterdam, and France.

Now that I’ve introduced myself, I would like to add some of my goals as a recent addition to The Mustang. Aside from composing interesting articles, and uploading captivating images, I would like to form a more community-friendly platform for the WNMU campus. I will be writing on several topics and various events – both regarding Western and Silver City. I aspire to lead not just students, but other members of the community to look further into their surroundings and not just the campus. Additionally, I hope that more people get involved within the Western community; thus, leading them to make new friends, finding comfortable areas to hang-out, and to overall create special memories.
