Silver City, N.M.- The opening for the Student Juried Art Show was held at McCray Gallery today and there was plenty on display from the talented students of WNMU. From huge bronze pieces, to woven fabrics, oil paintings, and photography, there was just about every type of medium offered in classes at WNMU from students within the Fine Arts program or those that are just enthusiasts of art itself.
With plenty of winners and prizes that were donated in tow, there was no shortage of talent to celebrate at the event and congratulate.
The big winner of the night received a $250 cash prize for the best piece in watercolor donated by the New Mexico Watercolor Society Southern Chapter, and that was Mariah Thornburg with her piece entitled, “Break Free.” For Best In Show, it went to Sky Klaus, for her photo series entitled, “Breathe.” Finally, the People’s Choice award voted on by guests of the gallery that attended the opening went to David Mulvenna, for his elegant steel and bronze piece entitled, “Hommage to Lewis Carroll.”
