Silver City, N.M. – The Student Government of Western New Mexico University recently selected Kymbra Espinosa as Senator for District 9. She is not new to student government as she served as senator last year for extended WNMU campuses such as Deming, T or C, and Lordsburg.
What interests Kymbra about student government is the fact that it is a good way to get involved while at the same time understanding what goes on at WNMU. She especially enjoys contributing in branch campuses as it gives a better opportunity to meet new people. District 9, which is her role in student government, is in Gallup and Kymbra is eager for this task. Sometime this semester she is scheduled to head to the campus.
“I would like to see their learning environment and would like to get them what they want,” Kymbra said. “I am excited. It is interesting to see what we can do.”
Dealing with WNMU’s main campus, Kymbra would like to see is more student participation. Also, she noted that students should attend public meetings because “it can generate more ideas” for WNMU.
Running for student government is already planned for her next year. “I think we are moving in a positive direction with student government and I would like to see that continue,” said Kymbra, “which is why I would like to run again.”
Born and raised in Ruidoso, New Mexico, Kymbra graduated from Capitan High School in 2014. Throughout her high school career, she was on the Honor Roll and National Honors Society. She was also a member of the softball, volleyball and basketball team and earned multiple sports awards. What brought Kymbra to WNMU was the softball and nursing program.
Majoring in Nursing and enrolled in the BSN Program, she decided to become a nurse since her freshman year of high school. “I really enjoy helping people and enjoy the hands-on that nurses use; it is a very involved job,” said Kymbra. As she is planned to graduate in December of 2018, she would like to become a travel nurse.
Kymbra’s main hobby is hunting which she has loved since a child and currently bows for a hunting company called Athens Archery.
ASWNMU’s next public meeting will be held on March 1st at 7 p.m. in the Miller Library.
