Silver City, NM- The WNMU Criminal Justice and Chemical Dependency Clubs held a different sort of fundraiser on Thursday, September 29. With the cooperation of the Silver City, Bayard and Santa Clara Police Departments and the Grant County Sheriffs office, the club held an “Arrest a Professor” event in which police officers would arrest members of the WNMU community and “hold” them in a makeshift prison on the first floor of the student memorial building until a bail of $20 was paid in full. Students could also pay money to keep faculty and staff in jail.
One of the many participants in the fundraiser who served jail-time was External Affairs Research Assistant and Mustang contributor Anna Daggett. “It was an opportunity to have fun and raise money for student programs on campus,” Anna said. “I’m glad I had a chance to be a part of that.”
All proceeds from the fundraiser are going toward a trip to San Francisco to visit the famed Alcatraz Prison, as well as other locations.
