Silver City NM- Western New Mexico University’s own Bruce Wilson has a novel coming out this September. Wilson, an Adjunct Assistant Professor of American History at the University will be debuting his novel, Death in the Black Patch. Wilson will have a signing on September 21, at Tre Rosat in Silver City, NM. The signing will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a short presentation and an opportunity to purchase the novel.
Death in the Black Patch takes place through the eyes of Wes Wilson during the spring of 1906 in Kentucky. In this day and age, tobacco farming was essential for the care and protection of one’s family. That is until one man created a monopoly and the rest of the men created a growers’ association. What will Wes do?
In this fictional version of a historical time, Wilson attempts to convey a portrait of family, secrets, and tragedy. The best part is that it sheds light on the Wilson family and their personal tragedy.
“My siblings and I used to love listening to my father tell us stories,” says Wilson, “but there was one he never finished; there was a tragedy and that’s all we knew.” Wilson set out to finish the story and uncover the truth.
Although this is his debut novel, Wilson has contributed to the Volkswagen anthology Bug Tales: The 99 Most Hilarious, Outrageous and Touching Tributes About The Car That Became a Cultural Icon by Paul Klebahn and Gabriella Jacobs, and also received an honorable mention in Desert Exposure for his short story “Raven’s Nest.”
The book will be available for purchase online and in stores September 13.
