Silver City, NM- Western New Mexico University has welcomed yet another group the University through the Language Institute during the month of July.
Students from Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) have been studying English here for the past three weeks as part of an arrangement made by UACJ and WNMU. There are two groups; one that focuses on the regular curriculum provided through the Language Institute, and the other a conversational English class that provides instructors with the tools they will need to teach students when they get back home.
The students’ studies focus on several aspects of the English language including grammar, listening and speaking, and reading and writing. These young men and women receive approximately 9 hours of instruction every day and will have completed their 180 hour intensive English Class by July 22.
All of the students are currently enrolled in UACJ and one student, Celeste Rios, is a returning student, after taking the program in Fall 2015. When asked why she returned to the program for the next level, Celeste said: “Originally I learned and practiced English a lot. I liked how organized [the program] was and how much we practiced English.” In November, Celeste was studying at level 5. This summer she is at level 6. This is the second and final time that she is allowed to take to the program.
While this class is set to end in July, another round of students are estimated to arrive on Sunday, July 24, continuing WNMU’s growth in the Department of International Studies.
