Women’s Golf Remains in 15th After Final Round of Lady Rattler Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Despite four Lady Mustangs shooting lower second rounds from their opening scores, the Western New Mexico University women’s golf team remained in 15th after the second and final round concluded Tuesday at the Lady Rattler Invitational.

WNMU tallied a 709, coming through with a 347 today after a first day 362 on Monday. Dallas Baptist won the 18-team field with a 625, 15-strokes clear of the field. St. Edward’s Haley Haught took home medalist honors with a 149, three-shots ahead of the field.

Mary Driscol (Glendale, AZ/Kellis HS) was again the front-runner for the Lady Mustangs as she carded a second day 83 to go with her opening score 85 for a 168 and into a tie for 39th. She tallied one birdie that came on the first hole. Adrianna Grijalva (Tucson, AZ/Ironwood HS) trimmed four-shots off her first round 92 for an 88 on Tuesday to end up with a two-day total of 180 to land in 72nd. Bobbi Pierson (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia HS), who was tied with Grijalva after the first day, ended up just one shot back with a 181 (92-89) to tie for 73rd. Pierson also fired one birdie that came on the 15th hole. Cheyenne Molina (Deming, NM/Deming HS) cut 13-strokes off of her opening round 100 to shoot 87 Tuesday to finish with a 187 and tie for 82nd. Her 87 was the second-best round of any Lady Mustang on the day and even included an eagle that she scored on the par-four, hole No. 2. Rounding out the golfers for WNMU, Valerie Zulueta (Menifee, CA/Menifee HS) landed in 87th with rounds of 93 and 98 for a 191.

WNMU will return to action on Feb. 23-24 when they will compete in the CBU Women’s Invitational in Corona, Calif.
