SKILLMAN, NJ – With a big regional win over Tarleton State, the Western New Mexico University women’s tennis team moved into the ITA south central rankings landing in tenth.
The Lady Mustangs are the only regional ranked team in the RMAC. Individually, Ganna Tiurina is ranked in singles, while the doubles team of Tiurina/Annica Betz is also regional ranked.
Tiurina is fifth and the only RMAC player ranked in singles. She is 8-7 on the season, having played every match at the top flight. The RMAC Preseason Player of the Year has rolled up some impressive wins over Division I Western Michigan, Texas-Permian Basin, nationally-ranked St. Edward’s and Tarleton State. Those four wins in a row helped her to be named RMAC Player of the Week during that week.
Tiurina/Betz have collected four wins at the top flight doubles slot. The duo is ranked tenth in the region and is the only RMAC doubles team in the top-10. They posted wins over Eastern Arizona, Holy Names, Texas-Permian Basin and Tarleton State.
WNMU, currently 5-11 on the season, will open RMAC play on April 3 against Montana State-Billings and Colorado Christian in Denver.
