Silver City, NM- Maybe you hadn’t realized it yet but many WNMU students have real, bona fide talent and it was showcased in an amazing and diverse line up at Light Hall Theater on Wednesday the 29th. The WNMU Marketing Club hosted the Mustang Talent Show, held in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
Students performed for a packed house, with the night kicked off by a group of students returning from last year called the I Guys, who opened the show with “Just My Imagination” by the Temptations. Felicia Flores followed next, performing “I Miss You” by Miley Cyrus. The next act was Amanda McGinnis, who performed a slowed-down, acoustic version of the Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc.” Tiana Terry sang “Titanium “ by Sia and Emily Hadenfeld gave an A Cappella version of the feminist anthem “Woman,” from the musical The Pirate Queen. Thomas Neve was next with a performance of “ Dark Days” by the Weeknd ft. Ed Sheeran and Dulce Ochoa revved up the crowd, singing the Selena classic “ Como la Flor,” accompanied with some slick dance moves.
Thrown in the mix was also a special performance by Sunia Vaitai, accompanied by his fabulous piano playing skills. The night ended with a stellar performance by Ross White, featuring a mash up including “Thinking out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, “Home” by Micheal Buble, “ Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne, and Justin Beiber’s “What Do You Mean?”
Ross took first place by decision of the judge’s panel. “Performing for a cause such as Breast Cancer Awareness encourages me even more to share my songs and voice.” White said.
The night raised $300 for Breast Cancer Awareness to be donated in its entirety to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and also spotlighted the Marketing Club in a very positive way.
Marketing Club member Claudia Osuna said, “I would like to thank the students for coming out and participating as well, we had a great turn out and were definitely going to keep working towards more successful events like these!”
