Eighteen Students Graduate from WNMU ESL Classes

Deming, NM- On Thursday, September 1, the WNMU Language Institute’s Domestic Program in Deming, NM graduated 18 students to the next level of ESL courses. Nine students were beginners, graduating from level one to level two, while the other nine were in more advanced courses, graduating from level nine to level ten.

Director Manuel Rodriguez hosted the event at the WNMU Deming Campus; in attendance were Director of Applied Technologies James Ortiz, WNMU Deming Director Ken Leupold, and two members of the Deming chapter of the Moose Lodge.

These courses of the Language Institutes Deming classes were put together with help from a donation from the Moose Lodge. The Language Institute’s Domestic program is designed to work with communities, giving Spanish-speaking members of Deming and the surrounding Luna County area an opportunity to learn how to speak English and become bilingual. Learning a second language can have a profound effect on someone, increasing their both their qualifications and opportunities in the workforce.

The next session of classes for the Language Institutes Domestic Program are estimated to start on September 14, with many students expected to return.
