Silver City, NM- Miller Library continues their Dead Week events with a unique activity full of expression– Art! Students are not however, instead of traditional art lessons given by WNMU Fine Art professors, the medium is being used as a form of stress relief and creativity with no skill required.
Acquisition Technician Michelle Reed brought up the idea after seeing it in a book that contained suggestions on bringing more patrons into the library.
“We have a lot of talented students, but I thought the activity would be fun for them and just relieve stress by doing some art,” said Reed. “All my life I’ve known people who use art to relieve stress; also we couldn’t have loud music to de-stress, so we picked bad art instead.”
The Bad Art table offered coloring pages with crayons, markers, acrylics, and finger paints. Students could also paint rocks, freestyle with a blank sheet of paper or even draw on the table itself, which was lined with colored construction sheets. And finally, patrons could finish of their disastrous, or aesthetically-correct, pieces with different colored glitter and acrylic rhinestones.
Miller Library will finish off their Dead Week events on Sunday night, December 3rd-4th, with the All-Nighter at Miller Library.
