ASWNMU Elections: Vincente Partido for Student Senate

My fellow students, I have had the honor and privilege of learning and working beside you for four years. In that time I have had the distinct pleasure of helping my classmates through study groups, and, more recently, by acting as an English tutor to many. While I am happy to serve any way I can, I did feel that there was more I could offer. That is why I decided to run for senator. There are many changes that may be coming to Western and I want to be a part of those changes to ensure that you, the students, are benefiting from those changes.

One such change I would like to see is solving the problem of what our students can do. With input from the student body it may be possible to team up with local businesses and give our students something to do. This is not the only change I would like to see however. It has been recently pointed out that students at the extended university campuses feel the responsibilities of college life but not the benefits. I feel that the main campus can and should work harder to make sure all of our students, regardless of location, feel united. These are just two of the changes I would like to see.

There are several skills that I possess that make me a good candidate for senator. Chief among them is the ability to listen to both the students. Listening to the students is the only way to act in the best interest of the students. Additionally, communication is also important. Being an English minor has taught me how write and speak effectively. Communicating plainly is important to effectively keeping the students informed about current events and working as part of a group. It is also important that any candidate is a team player. I have worked on many team projects of the course of my college career. These projects have ranged from helping United Way enter the area to doing the research to help a local business expand internationally. Finally I feel that I bring a no-nonsense attitude to the table when it’s time to work but I am also approachable and generally good natured when appropriate. I sincerely hope you consider voting for me on Thursday 4/20 or Friday 4/21. The only way that we can improve Western is to do so together.
