Silver City, NM- Everyone knows Kaity. The 21 year-old Social Work major was born in Odessa, TX, but grew up in Deming, NM. Currently a third year Social Work student at Western New Mexico University, Kaity is just now wrapping up her second year as part of Student Senate and now has set her sites on the presidency.
“I love politics, and was active in student government throughout my middle school and high school years,” Kaity said. “I attended the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Alamogordo, NM. Where I served as Student Body President, and Key Club President.” While at NMSBVI, Kaity was chosen to go to the State Capital on more than one occasion to advocate for policy changes, and for the needs of her fellow students. Kaity was appointed by the school administration as a student representative for the School Safety and Crisis Committee, and served from January, 2011-May, 2013.)
Kaity served in ASWNU (student government) since the 2014-15 school year, and currently serves as the Senate Secretary. While serving as Senator, Kaity has made it her goal for all students, regardless of what campus they attend, to feel as though they are truly a part of WNMU.
“ Student government has made great strides this year, and I plan to continue to guide us in the same direction.” Kaity said. She listed her goals as making sure that all clubs are included in campus events, ensuring that students from all corners of the university feel included and helping increase campus safety.
In conclusion, Kaity stated: “When I am elected to be president, my goal is to not only to make college one of the best experiences of your life, but also for all of the student body to work together to make WNMU the best college in all of New Mexico!”
Voting starts this Wednesday and doesn’t close until Friday.
