Silver City NM- The end of last semester meant the beginning of some new hires for Western New Mexico University, one of them being a new Director of Marketing. Chosen for the position was Mario Sanchez, a New Mexican native who is passionate about bringing wealth and opportunity to various areas of the state. Having a dual degree in Strategic Communication and Political Science from UNM, Sanchez knows how important it is to take care of rural communities and he is ready for the challenge.
“Coming down to Silver City for the interview process really gave me a feel of what I was getting myself into”, says Sanchez, “I love the people and the commitment that the staff at Western has towards their students.”
Sanchez was raised in Belen, on the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico. When the chance to move somewhere new came around, it was almost like a no brainer. “In a bigger city everything is more convenient, but here you can really fall in love with the outdoors and the people.”
Having been employed by the university for a few months now, Sanchez and his team are working to promote Western as an institution of choice nationwide as well as to collaborate with various offices to promote the campus as a whole. This will also include branch campuses like Deming, and the online student population as well. Geo-targeting and reaching students via text-message are just two of the campaigns that are set to launch this year, with bigger and better things on the way.
The Marketing Department is located on the first floor of the Juan Chacon Building, main campus.
