New ASWNMU Hosts First (and Last) Meeting of the Year

Silver City, NM- The new guard of Associated Students of Western New Mexico University had their first meeting on Monday, May 9 at 7pm. This was also the last meeting of the academic year.

President of the Associated Students Claudia Osuna and newly-appointed Vice President Dylan Kester led the incredibly brief special meeting in which the new student government approved their first bill, which allocated funds for President Osuna to work through the summer semesters.

One noteworthy thing about this group of student government is that it is almost entirely comprised of brand new members, with ten fresh students approving their very first senate bill. Only Osuna, Kester, Attorney General Harry Wetton, Governmental Affairs Director AsiaMarie Garcia, Secretary Bre Aker and Senator Brandon Woods returning from previous years.

In other changes for ASWNMU, the organization recently selected the Associate Dean of the School of Business, Dr. Steve Chavez, as their new advisor. Student Government’s previous advisor, Abe Villareal, will now be helping guide Mustang Entertainment.

ASWNMU is wrapping up for this semester. The Mustang recently posted a full list of the new ASWNMU members, as well as a feature on their departing pro temp and will continue to update students on any of their future developments.
