Silver City NM- The Southwest New Mexico Homebuilder Association took it upon themselves this week to award 6 scholarships to different students enrolled in Western New Mexico University’s School of Applied Technology.
In order to obtain a scholarship the applicant had to be a freshman, enrolled in the School of Applied Technology, and must have graduated from any Grant County high school. Originally there was only supposed to be two scholarships awarded to the program; however, upon reviewing the applications and interviewing each of the applicants, the Homebuilder Association couldn’t just pick two students so they chose six. The Homebuilders Association believes in the ability and the future of applied technology at WNMU and saw the future in these six scholarship applicants.
Charles “Clay” Rice and Gilberto Barrios were able to secure $500.00 scholarships while Shyla McBride, Wellington Woodward, Wesley Lamb, and Luke Vega obtained scholarships in the amount of $250.00 each. The students graduated from different high schools around the County including Opportunity High School, Cliff High School, Silver High School, and Cobre High School. The student’s will be honored next Thursday at a luncheon where they will receive their scholarships.
