Student Activities Hosts (Not So) Silent Library Competition

Silver City, NM- One of MTV’s classic game shows, Silent Library was recreated by Student Activities Director/Hall Director, Katherine M. Warren, along with multiple students. The actual television show consists of two teams in a library displaying bizarre events, while trying to stay completely silent in order to win a cash prize. In the WNMU version, the winning team won sweatshirts for the winter season that is rapidly headed towards us. Nine teams were to be judged of how quiet each team could be while performing 9 stunts. Judges included library employees Tamrah Ortiz and Atziry Apodaca, and Mustang Editor Eric Lowe. It seemed just as hard for the judges not to burst into laughter, as it was for the teams themselves.

The odd stunts involved with face painting, and blindly eating things such as baby food, mayonnaise, Sriracha, and pudding. One student, Bre Aker, barely survived the baby food eating challenge. “I could not get it out of my head that it was mayonnaise and I was just so freaked out. I honestly thought I was going to throw up.”

The final challenge had a student massaging a fellow students feet with soybean oil, while another student placed wet gummy worms on the students blindfolded face. This challenge had many teams laughing hysterically, turning the Silent Library into a not-so Silent Library. The competition was ultimately won by team three, made up of students AsiaMarie Garcia, Marissa Aguirre, Jorge Mendoza, Jazmin Hernandez, Karina Marin and Josette Membrila, all of whom went home with a lovely set of sweatshirts.
