Silver City, NM- On Friday, October 20th the Light Hall patio was filled with lively traditional German music and mouthwatering cuisine. Students and staff gathered for a more school-friendly adaptation of the traditional Oktoberfest, a folk festival traditionally celebrated in Munich, Germany since 1811. Student Life helped serve food such as schnitzel, wurst, pretzels with cheese, and of course some root beer to drink.
Psychology major and student of WNMU, Amelia Waters shared her thoughts on the event, “Great people, great food, enjoyable music and environment.”
Waters in fact, has some German ancestry, and was particularly drawn to this event due to her blood but mostly to have a good time.
“I hope Western keeps holding more events like this,” quotes Waters, stating that they enrich students lives.
WNMU’s Oktoberfest was the first type of Oktoberfest that Waters has ever attended to, and she hopes to attend more in the future.
