Women’s Golf Begins Spring Schedule at Lady Rattler Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Western New Mexico University women’s golf team opens the 2015 spring schedule this coming Monday and Tuesday when they will compete in the Lady Rattler Invitational at the Dominion Golf Course.

The Lady Mustangs played in five tournaments during the fall with their top finish of fourth coming at the RMAC #2 hosted by Colorado Mesa. Adrianna Grijalva (Tucson, AZ/Ironwood HS) tied for 13th, Mary Driscol (Glendale, AZ/Kellis HS) landed in a tie for 15th and Bobbi Pierson (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia HS) ended up in a tie for 19th were the three Lady Mustangs to land in the top-20 at that event.

Driscol had other solid showings including tying for 13th at the Wolf Pack Invitational, 17th at the RMAC #1, tying for 18th at the WNMU Intercollegiate and tying for 11th at the Lady Buff Stampede.

Pierson added another top-20 finish at the RMAC #1 coming in a tie for 17th. Driscol and Grijalva each have posted the lowest round scores on the team of 73. Pierson’s low round was a 76. Driscol carded her 73 at the Lady Buff Stampede, Grijavla posted hers at the WNMU Intercollegiate and Pierson fired her 76 at the WNMU Intercollegiate.
In addition to Grijalva, Driscol and Pierson, Cheyenne Molina (Deming, NM/Deming HS), Valerie Zulueta (Menifee, CA/Menifee HS) and Jessica Henderson (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) have all seen significant time on the course. All three played in each of the five fall tournaments.

Molina and Henderson have each posted low score rounds of 78, while Zulueta’s low round was 83. Molina twice landed in the top-40 placing in a tie for 37th at the RMAC #1 and tying for 35th at the RMAC #2. Zulueta grabbed a 56th place finish at the RMAC #1, while Henderson’s top finish was a tie for 63rd also at the RMAC #1.

After this trip to Texas, WNMU will also travel to Corona, Calif., for the CBU Women’s Invitational, Mesa, Ariz., for the FHSU Invitational, Palm Desert, Calif., for the Augustana Spring Fling, Goodyear, Ariz., for the Mustang Intercollegiate and Litchfield Park, Ariz., for the RMAC Championship.
