Women’s Golf Opens Lady Rattler Invitational in 15th

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Fighting through the cold and wind with temperatures in the 30’s, the Western New Mexico University women’s golf team opened the Lady Rattler Invitational in 15th after the first round took place Monday.

The Lady Mustangs shot an opening round 362 to sit in 15th, a stroke back of Hawaii-Hilo in 14th. Dallas Baptist leads the 18-team field with a 321, four-shots ahead of Newman. Three golfers are tied for first with 78’s in Kirsten Pike (Dallas Baptist), Emily Aird (Newman) and Judy Papenfus (West Texas A&M).

Mary Driscol (Glendale, AZ/Kellis HS) continued to pace WNMU like she did for a majority of the fall season with an 85 that has her in a tie for 34th. Adrianna Grijalva (Tucson, AZ/Ironwood HS) and Bobbi Pierson (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia HS) are tied for 69th as each opened with 92’s. Valerie Zulueta (Menifee, CA/Menifee HS) was right behind them with a 93 that has her in a tie for 77th. Rounding out the golfers for the Lady Mustangs, Cheyenne Molina (Deming, NM/Deming HS) is in 88th with a 100.
