On October 1st students had the opportunity to let loose at the Throwback Thursday party thanks to the Residence Hall Association (RHA). The turnout may have been less than stellar but a decent crowd of the student body kept Graham Gym bouncing to a mix of Hip-Hop and Rap until one in the morning.
For the people there, a night of dancing and hanging out with friends was an excellent way to unwind before the dreaded midterms arrive and proved that RHA was still a visible and active member of the campus community, which was just what RHA had in mind when they planned the event.
Treasurer for the Residence Hall Association Dayana Baez said that the party was both requested by residents and was a way to advertise RHA. The Residence Hall Association acts as a student council for the residence halls, with it’s main focus resolving issues that arise within the halls, which could include anything from maintaining the residence halls to improving their existing infrastructure.
RHA holds meetings that are open to all students at The Center for Gender Equity. These meetings are a great way for students to get involved with RHA and voice any concerns, problems, or suggestions that may help improve the experience in the residence halls. RHA is already getting ahead of possible problems that may arise with heating systems before the cold months set in. Ms. Baez also mentioned that RHA is working to get coin machines for the residence halls to provide easier laundry service for the residents.
When asked about upcoming events, Ms. Baez commented that the priority of RHA was resolving issues within the residence halls. However she did say that RHA was working with the Resident Assistants to plan more activities for residents, including the events for the upcoming Glam Week in cooperation with the Center for Gender Equity.
RHA meetings are held at The Center for Gender Equity at 1211 Mississippi Street, every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7:30. RHA is also looking for students interested in becoming representatives for their residence hall.
