Deming, NM — On February 6, 2015, the Institute for Rural Social Work, or IRSR, presented Western New Mexico University student Kaity Ellis with a $3000 IRSR-Vice President of Student Affairs scholarship. The award was given to Kaity by IRSR Director Dr. Robert Rickle and Western New Mexico University Vice President of Student Affairs Isaac Brundage to assist Ellis in getting a service dog as well as the expenses in training Kaity in its use. “I am very excited and very pleased to receive this award,” Kaity said.
Dr. Rickle stated that the Institute of Rural Social Work “is dedicated to providing research, evaluation and technical assistance to rural social service agencies to build and sustain community capacity.” Dr. Rickle also says the organization also tries to give back to communities serviced by the organization in the form of student scholarships, stating that many more scholarships will be awarded this coming fall.
